Ralph Lauren
Diana Holstein for Ralph Lauren
“I had long admired another American icon, Ralph Lauren, for his way of working with classic and modern style concepts in fashion. When a close friend started working for him in 1995, she opened my eyes to his Home collection. I took the opportunity to send my work to the Ralph Lauren head office in |New York as there was a vacancy as product manager for porcelain. I was rejected but not entirely as they asked that if I was in town in the future I might be able to do freelance work for them. However it was not until eighteen months later, when my work permit was in place, that I found the courage to call the Ralph Lauren office.
Again luck was on my side – the position had become vacant again and my application was tabled as one of the candidates. I joined up then and there, and worked as a full-time freelancer for nearly three years, during which I designed everything imaginable that can be laid on a table – plates, tablecloth, glass, cutlery as well as gifts.”
