“The dream of America started in 1996, when I went to New York in pursuit of work (and a work permit). I contacted the companies I had heard of and top of the list was Tiffany & Co on Fifth Avenue – a true New York and American icon. By an extraordinary stroke of luck, when I telephoned them to ask for a job, I somehow bypassed the secretary and instead got straight through to their legendary head of design, John Loring. He was very friendly and directed me to the right person, and from then on doors opened for me as if it was my right! Fortune favoured the brave! Within two weeks I had designed the decorations for six porcelain crockery sets, and one was chosen for further development. And that was how my New York adventure began. I stayed for two years and worked on finishing the set as well as a number of other jobs.”
